DUNCAN SUMTER

ARTIST & PHILOSOPHER

I paint what words cannot yet say.

My name is Duncan Sumter. I live and work in Winterswijk, the Netherlands.

The paintings began as raw conversations between chaos and control. But the deeper practice quickly moved beyond the canvas. I started treating life itself as the artwork — fully embracing the moment, following my desires, and allowing reality to unfold. From that lived experiment came the revelations that birthed my philosophy.

Today I am writing that philosophy down in a way that can actually be lived, while continuing to practice it every single day.

This website is the first place where the full story appears. I am ready to show the paintings, share the philosophy, and connect.

The Path

My path has always followed the same rhythm: deep immersion followed by a breakthrough. Now I am in the longest and most important phase yet.

2009
Early Creative Work
YouTuber with millions of views. Viral glitch videos and wild gameplay in Call of Duty. The spark that started my entire creator journey.
2015
Animated Artworks
Brought existing artworks to life through self-invented animation styles, with some animations becoming very popular at the time.
2016–2018
Experiments with Technology
Programming drawings and experimenting with early AI photo generation. Constantly pushing technology to serve art.
2019
The Paintings
Abstract expressionist paintings created in the studio. This was the phase where paint became the primary medium to explore existence itself.
2020-2022
Life as Canvas
After the paintings, I stopped needing a canvas. I turned life itself into the artwork — fully embracing the moment, following my desires, and allowing reality to unfold. This was the practice. It brought real success: freedom in Turkey, deep connections, and a sense of fulfilment I had never known.
2023–Now
Lived Philosophy & Building
After the revelations in Turkey, the philosophy took shape. I began writing it in a way that could actually be lived. For years I worked in retail management to create stability for my family, while trying to live these ideas as my real practice.
WORK IN PROGRESS

Three Manuscripts

These three manuscripts are the written part of my attempt to live the philosophy that emerged after I stopped painting. Life itself became the real work. They remain unpublished and very much works in progress.
